Motorsport History

The proprietor of PMS Motorsport Peter Gilham has over 30 years Motorsport experience. He started karting at the age of sixteen and progressed to Autocross with a 1300cc Ford Anglia.  From there he moved into rallying when he built a 2.1 Pinto powered MKII Escort.  He rallied this car until 1989 when an accident caused the car to be declared a right off.  In October 1989 he finished building its replacement the MKIV Escort which he still competes in today. The MKIV Escort has recently benefited from the installation of a 2.0L 16v normally aspirated Cosworth engine.

During Peter's Motorsport career he has owned many competition prepared vehicles.  Below you will see some of the cars he has used over his 3 decades of Motorsport.

My first proper compitition car. I built it in 1976 and used it for autocross for 4 years.

This car has a very interesting history. It started life as the BRM Anglia and was once owned by John McDonald owner of the Ram Formula One team. I purchased the car with a blown engine. The replacement parts for the Holbay engine were never fitted and I sold the car as a rolling shell and parts.

The remains of my MKII Escort. This happened when I struck a pothole at Wilbarston airfield at 90Mph+. I used the engine and gearbox when I built my MKIV Escort.

I bought this car in 1993 as a rolling shell and finished of the build with parts that had been "lifed"on my previous MKII Escort. This was the only event I competed in with the car. We finished in 7th place. The car was sold to a chap from Ireland who fitted a 1600cc engine.

This was one of the four Sierra XR4x4 cars that I used to hire out to rally schools. I decided to go out and have some fun in the cars only competitive event in 1995.

Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 used for rally tuition and passenger rides at various locations. Sold in 1997 to a gent from Watford who used the car for the Network Q rally in the November of 1997.

This Sieara Cosworth was originally built by GSD Engineering. When I bought the car it was a rolling shell. I installed the engine and gearbox from my previous Cosworth and used the car for tuition plus passenger rides for a rally school based in Liecestershire. I sold it in 1991.

I rallied this 2.0litre Escort once, on the day Princess Diana died. I didn't know what had happened until I returned home that evening. I retired on stage 7 because of camshaft failure whilst lying 14th overall.
